Today, it serves as the cultural and economic center of the region, with 26 surrounding villages and a population of about 30,000 people. The city’s population, including the neighborhoods of Hasznos and Mátrakeresztes, is nearly 10,000.
Attractions in Pásztó:
Pásztó Museum
An original 15th-century residential house. The archaeological excavation of its interior was carried out by Dr. Ilona Valter in 1977-78. During this excavation, the remains of a half-open cooking facility in the kitchen were discovered. In the pantry, three grain storage pits were found, containing nearly the entire inventory of a medieval household, which is now displayed in showcases. The room has been reconstructed to resemble a medieval interior, featuring furniture made from medieval designs and a restored tiled stove (or hearth stove).
